SECRET COVE AND THE SUNSHINE COAST
The Sunshine Coast lies along the northeastern shores of Georgia Strait. It is part of the British Columbia mainland but is separated from the Vancouver area by Howe Sound and is accessible only by ferry. It is a magnificent area of rocky headlands, beaches and nearby islands backed by forested uplands. Secret Cove where our Townhouse is situated is a popular vacation area renowned for boating and fishing. It is just north of Halfmoon Bay and south of Pender Harbour and only about forty minutes driving time from the ferry terminal.
For the ferry schedule and fares click on the link below. Note that the fare covers the return trip so it is much cheaper than a ferry trip to Vancouver Island.
HOW TO GET THERE
Join Highway 1 west to the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal and board a British Columbia ferry to the Sunshine Coast. The ferry sails every two hours with more frequent sailings in the summer. The crossing to Langdale takes about 40 minutes through spectacular marine and mountain scenery. Then drive north on Highway 101 about 50km (30 miles). During the 40 minutes drive you will pass through North Gibsons and the Town of Sechelt and then after passing the cut-off to Halfmoon Bay watch for the sign for the Secret Cove Resort Area where you should turn left on to Mercer Road for the entrance to the Jolly Roger. The Townhouse is #102 and is situated at the front of the property to the left of the former restaurant building.
THE CIRCLE TOUR
If you wish to visit the Sunshine Coast and Vancouver Island you may do this conveniently by B.C. ferries. After travelling to the Sunshine Coast and spending time at our townhouse you continue driving north on Highway 101 to Earls Cove and board the ferry across Jarvis Inlet to Saltery Bay. Continue to Powell River and board another ferry to Courtenay/Comox on Vancouver Island. Then head south either to Nanaimo for a ferry back to Horseshoe Bay or to Victoria for a ferry from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen which is south of Vancouver. This tour may also be done in reverse.
